Rachel Nicholls

Rachel Nicholls was born in Bedford and in 2013 was awarded an Opera Awards Foundation Bursary to study with Dame Anne Evans.

Rachel has worked with orchestras throughout Europe and East Asia, and in recital at venues including Wigmore Hall in London. Recordings include Siegfried and Elgar’s The Spirit of England with the Hallé Orchestra and Sir Mark Elder, a wide repertoire with Bach Collegium Japan, Tippett’s Third Symphony for Chandos Records, and The Midsummer Marriage on the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s own label, conducted by Edward Gardner.

Recent engagements include: Isolde Tristan and Isolde (Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Grange Park Opera, and in concert with São Paolo Symphony Orchestra); title role Elektra (Basel, Münster, Karlsruhe); title role Salome (Hannover); Brünnhilde Siegfried in concert (Hallé Orchestra, recently released on CD); Brünnhilde Götterdämmerung (Taiwan); Marie | Marietta The Dead City (Korean National Opera); Brünnhilde The Valkyrie (ENO); Leonore Fidelio (Opera North, Lithuanian National Opera); Senta The Flying Dutchman and Mariya Mazeppa (Grange Park Opera). Rachel will perform in a complete Ring Cycle for Grange Park Opera in 2026.
