Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending
Mendelssohn: Symphony No 4 ‘Italian’
Vaughan Williams’ enduring beauty The Lark Ascending is performed in-between two Mendelssohn masterpieces: the beautiful and romantic A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture and his Symphony No 4, which depicts the Italian blue sky and open countryside.
Completing the programme is one of the most sympathetic settings of Shakespeare’s work, Gerald Finzi’s song cycle Let us Garlands Bring which was dedicated to Vaughan Williams on the occasion of his 70th birthday, and a new piece by Welsh composer Owain Llwyd, Y Gogarth, inspired by Llandudno’s Great Orme and its surrounding wildlife.
The talented WNO Orchestra are joined by concertmaster David Adams and WNO Associate Artist Aaron O’Hare.
Join Composer Owain Llwyd and WNO Orchestra's trombone section at 6:30pm for an informal pre-performance talk ahead of the concert in Pontio, Bangor and The Riverfront, Newport. Find out more about Y Gogarth, which will be performed for the very first time on this tour, and what it's like to be a member of WNO Orchestra.
