June is Pride Month - a time to come together to support, learn, and celebrate. It’s a chance to remind ourselves that Pride, all year round, isn’t just important, it’s essential.
Pride has always been, first and foremost, a protest. The progress we see in LGBTQ+ rights today was hard-won by courageous activists and communities who fought, and continue to fight, for equality, visibility, and truth. This year, the fight for LGBTQ+ rights- especially for our trans and non-binary siblings - is more vital than ever.
At Welsh National Opera, we stand firmly with the LGBTQ+ community and affirm everyone’s right to live authentically, peacefully, and safely. Opera has always been about using the voice - to tell stories, to express identity, to challenge, to uplift. We encourage everyone to be an ally, to use your voice. Speak up against bigotry and hate of all kinds. Stand with those who are being harmed.
We are proud to celebrate Pride Month – taking centre stage in joy and solidarity, sharing our art, our love, our families, and our voices - proudly and without apology.
So let us listen. Let us care. Let us support one another - all year round.
