Overview
Patrick studied at the Royal College of Music with Kevin Hathway, Andy Smith, Mike Skinner and Janos Kescei. He was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra for three years, under the tutorage of Rainer Seegers (Principal Timpani, Berlin Philharmonic) which sparked his love of calf headed Timpani.
Prior to joining WNO, Patrick freelanced in London with many great orchestras and conductors: 'I was fortunate enough to enjoy some fantastic musical opportunities, including playing Onstage Timpani for Harrison Birtwhistle’s The Minotaur at The Royal Opera House.'
Patrick’s personal highlights with WNO so far have included Meistersinger at the BBC Proms with Sir Bryn Terfel and Lothar Koenings, Lulu and Wozzeck in Llandudno, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with WNO Music Director Tomáš Hanus. 'Performing the ‘Typewriter‘ at a family concert in Hong Kong to a packed hall was pretty special too!'
Patrick is passionate about education work, teaching and inspiring young percussionists, and sharing the joy of music through workshops with children and young people who may not otherwise have the chance. Patrick teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and has been a tutor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.
Away from WNO, Patrick is a surfer and is usually in a wetsuit at his local beach in the Vale of Glamorgan. He also enjoys spending time with his young family, and the occasional pint of real ale.
