Rhondda Rebel An immersive digital music experience
Archived: 2018/2019Overview
In 2018 WNO presented Rhondda Rips it up! a rip roaring new commission celebrating the life of Welsh suffragette Margaret Haig Thomas. To enhance the production and further engage audiences and augment a key scene from the opera by blending together music, theatre and augmented reality to a new stimulating experience.
For its premiere at Sessions House court room in Usk, the Augmented Reality experience was synced to a live theatre performance, placing Rhondda in the court trial with live actors and spatial sound. After the premiere, Rhondda Rebel toured as an installation locations in Cardiff, Bangor and Southampton.
Very interesting and atmospheric. Brings the trouble of suffragism to life
A fascinating addition to the opera – gives the court atmosphere extra punch!
