Located within walking distance to Welsh National Opera’s home, Wales Millennium Centre, Future Inns Cardiff Bay and its sumptuous, extra-large bedrooms entice a variety of guests and occasionally, the odd filming crew.
We recently had the pleasure of using the 4* venue as the location for the fourth video in our Rearrange series – the Trio from Rossini’s Le Comte Ory.
When picking an appropriate venue for filming WNO Producer Maris Lyons said:
When the director said that she’d like to film this piece in a hotel, I knew exactly where to turn. The bedrooms at Future Inns are much larger than most hotels which would help immensely in accommodating artists, cameras, a crew while securing the best angles for the project. I reached out to our partner hotel, Future Inns straight away and they were very open to the idea of us filming there
Director Daisy Evans transported Rossini’s farcical trio – which was written in 1828 - to an office party, where the possibility of shenanigans is endless. Matching Rossini’s colourful orchestral writing, Daisy Evans wrote new English lyrics, and took visual inspiration from contemporary music videos from artists such as Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj.
We took advantage of all the hotel’s great facilities and filmed in their bar, lift, corridors and not forgetting both the bedroom and bathroom.
Despite being at full capacity the hotel went out of way to help us. Thanks to all the great staff at Future Inns, the filming process ran smoothly and was very successful. The whole team stayed at the hotel, and it was very reassuring to know that everyone would be comfortable and well looked after
