Jenůfa audience response

Katie Mitchell’s acclaimed production of Jenůfa returned to Welsh National Opera on 5 March, and we’ve already had some fantastic 4-star reviews and audience feedback. WNO Music Director, Tomáš Hanus, himself a recipient of the Janáček memorial medal, opened the night’s performance with aspeech about the current events in Europe, before conducting WNO Orchestra through Janáček’s dramatic opera.


Tomáš Hanus shows us all the earthy, brutal lyricism of Janáček’s score.

This was a wholly compelling performance from cast, chorus and orchestra alike, embracing such empathy and commitment as to leave its audience deeply moved and more than a bit drained.
