Spring tour cancellation

21 January 2021

Due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic, and the associated restrictions, we have regretfully taken the decision to cancel our Spring 2021 Season. The current lockdown and closure of most theatres until at least April 2021 makes it impossible for us to rehearse, stage and tour as planned.

WNO General Director Aidan Lang explains ‘We went into Christmas full of optimism that a corner had been turned, and that we would be able to produce Spring Season, even if a reduced version. The speed at which the virus has spread since then, however, has caused us to re-assess the situation. Although the decision to cancel our Spring Season is hugely disappointing to everyone, performers and audience alike, safety is always our paramount concern. Uncertainty currently prevails over everything involved in putting a production together – the status of our touring venues, travel restrictions for our overseas artists and government guidelines over rehearsing and performing. We are therefore reconsidering what work we might be able to present after Easter, and looking further ahead, are planning anew for a return to the stage in Autumn.’

Ticket holders will be contacted directly by venues in due course – please do not contact the box offices at this time.

We hope that you have enjoyed the performances and recordings that we have shared online so far, and we will continue to create more of these over the coming months, which you can find on our website and social media channels.

All of us at WNO are looking forward to a time when we can see you all again at a theatre or concert hall and in the meantime we hope that you all stay safe and well.
