The Barber of Seville - Audience Reaction

29 September 2021

On Thursday 9 September not only did our Autumn 2021 Season open here in Cardiff at our home, Wales Millennium Centre, but it also marked both WNO’s return to the stage and the Centre’s opening following the Covid pandemic. Our first performance, of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, received some wonderful audience feedback, here’s what you had to say.

Some people took to Twitter:

others, Facebook:

OMG what a simply wonderful production of the Barber of Seville . First time back since the Pandemic and what a high point to start. Laugh out loud comedy, beautiful voices, an absolute triumph. Well done all 😊💖😎

I loved seeing this last week! The perfect post-Covid (hopefully) pickle-up. Some of the best Rossini singing I’ve heard in a long while.

Other audience members took to email to let us know their thoughts, here’s a sample:

‘Great fun last night, just what we needed.’

‘Congratulations on a splendid comical treat…a triumph all round. All the voices were unreservedly excellent, and the production which I first saw in Bristol Hippodrome worked again, perfect for the times we live in.’

‘On Friday night my wife and I had the great pleasure of being in the audience for The Barber of Seville, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The singing and acting were well up to the usual high standards of WNO, and I particularly appreciated the balance between singers and orchestra.’

‘magnificent!!’

The Barber of Sevillewill be on tour until Thursday 2 December. We hope to see you soon at a venue near you and look forward to hearing your reactions. Join in the conversation with #WNObarber.
