June has arrived and summer has begun (in our eyes, at least)! With the warmer weather here, you may be in the mood for romance and on the lookout for date ideas. Well, look no further – our upcoming Summertime Soiree concert has all the elements required to make the perfect summer date…

Old-school entertainment
People have been attending classical concerts for generations, and in large numbers from the 19th century. Before the variety of forms of entertainment available today, these concerts were key events in the calendar, gathering people together to socialise and experience the joys of live music. And there’s a reason they are still going today – they allow you to temporarily escape the manic, tech-filled world we live in as the music transports you elsewhere.
Passionate music
One of the biggest draws of our Summertime Soiree concert is, of course, the exquisite music, performed by WNO Orchestra, who are conducted by Harry Ogg.
The music features Robert Schumann’s well-loved Overture to the opera Genoveva, which opens the concert with a combination of growing tension and delighted energy – perfect for getting hearts racing! Another highlight is Sarah Frances Jenkins’s The Coming of Night, a piece inspired by an Emily Dickinson poem, particularly her portrayal of the beauty of nature at twilight and dusk. The piece’s deep power and moving harmonies will leave you entranced. Also featured are Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel, where our soloist Tara Erraught shines, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No 5 Reformation, which brings the concert to a thrilling end.
Something different
Our concert also provides an opportunity for people who might not usually engage with classical music to try something new. Don’t get us wrong, the classic restaurant, cinema or coffee shop dates are great options, but they can lack the ‘wow’ factor. The Summertime Soiree concert, meanwhile, offers something truly unique and special, and is the type of date you’ll remember for years.
The opportunity to explore somewhere new
Significantly, the concert is travelling to seven destinations across Wales and South-West England, so there are plenty of chances to attend. We begin in Southampton, and then tour to Barnstaple, Bristol, Cardiff, Mold, Bangor and Newtown. And if you’re not from any of these brilliant locations, why not give one of them a visit? Exploring a new place is surely the ideal addition to a date that’s already stand-out.
Of course, our Summertime Soiree concert is not limited to romantic dates only – it’s also a lovely way to spend time with friends or family members, sharing the unparalleled pleasure of a classical concert. Alternatively, you can take yourself on a magical solo date.
So, what are you waiting for? Invite someone you love, or treat yourself, and book tickets now.
