Meet WNO

Alice Farnham

Alice Farnham was an organ scholar at St Hugh’s College, Oxford before she trained with Ilya Musin in St Petersburg. She now returns to conduct WNO Youth Opera having previously conducted Britten’s Paul Bunyan and Maxwell-Davies’ Kommilitonen! She has been Guest Conductor with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia. Recently, she conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra in a Prom. She also regularly conducts productions at the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. She is also Artistic Director of Women Conductors with the Royal Philharmonic Society, Female Conductor Programme at Dublin’s National Concert Hall, and the Perth Symphony Orchestra. She is listed in the BBC Woman’s Hour Music Power List.  Upcoming engagements include The Elixir of Love (Longborough Festival Opera), and a new opera by Conor Mitchell and the Belfast Ensemble.
