Born into a family of musicians, at the age of 16 Ben gained a scholarship to the Purcell School as a jazz bassist where he learned with Oli Hayhurst and pursued classical lessons with Neil Tarlton. Ben was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He continued his studies with Neil Tarlton at the Royal College of Music and was a member of the English National Opera orchestral scheme in his final year. After graduating he attended a bass course run by world renowned soloist Gary Karr in Victoria, Canada.
After freelancing with orchestras in the UK and Ireland for two years, Ben joined WNO in 2018 and has since enjoyed playing some of the best classical music, as well as great writing for the bass, ever since.
