Overview
Elena Langer was born in Russia and studied piano and composition at the Moscow Conservatoire. In 1999 she moved to London and studied composition at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Langer’s operas include Figaro Gets a Divorce, which uses a libretto by David Pountney and was first produced by WNO. She re-orchestrated César Cui's 1913 opera Puss in Boots for the Grand Théâtre de Genève using only the surviving vocal score, and in 2016 a CD of her compositions, Landscape with Three People, was released by Harmonia Mundi.
