Meet WNO

Emma Waller

Tutti First Violin

Emma studied with David Gregory (CBSO) whilst at school and then the University of Sheffield. She subsequently gained an MA from Birmingham Conservatoire and continued to study with Catherine Lord in Somerset.

Prior to joining WNO in 2003, Emma spent six months in Portugal as a first violinist with Orquestra do Norte before freelancing and teaching in the West Country.

Emma loves the variety of repertoire undertaken by WNO Orchestra. Her personal highlights have included La bohème with Carlo Rizzi (during the interval of a performance of which in 2003 she was offered her job), Die Meistersinger at the BBC Proms with Lothar Koenigs, Berg’s Moses und Aaron, Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, and playing with Kate Woolveridge and the fantastic Forget-Me-Not Chorus for those living with dementia.

Away from WNO, Emma enjoys time with her family and running, swimming and walking.
