James Schouten

Canadian-born tenor James Schouten studied at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Alexander Gibson Opera School (RCS Opera). 

Recent engagements include: Loge Das Rheingold (Regents Opera), The Architect Taj Mahal (Grange Park Opera), Bacchus Ariadne auf Naxos (Trentino Music Festival), Alfred Die Fledermaus (Kentish Opera), Le Prince Charmant Cendrillon (RCS Opera), Don Jose Carmen (Opera in Oborne) and Laca Jenůfa (Fulham Opera). 

James has achieved success in several competitions. He won 1st Place and the Audience Prize at the 2024 Carole Rees Mastersingers Competition, performed in the 2024 Clonter Opera Prize, won the 2023 Ye Cronies Competition at RCS and reached the final of the 2022 Marmo All’Opera in Carrara, Italy. 

Upcoming performances include: title role Oedipus Rex (New Palace Opera), Narraboth Salome (Regents Opera) and Froh Das Rheingold (Grange Park Opera).
