Jana Kurucová

Mezzo-soprano Jana Kurucová was born in Slovakia and studied at the Conservatory in Banska Bystrica and at the University for Music in Graz, Austria where she made her operatic debut in The Magic Flute (Zweite Dame) and La finta giardiniera (Ramiro); she then joined the Young Artists Programme of the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, subsequently the Ensemble of the Theater Heidelberg where she had the opportunity to make her first debuts in major roles, such as Sesto La Clemenza de Tito, Idamante Idomeneo and  Rosina Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

In 2009 she joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin where she had occasion to develop her lead singing roles across the major opera repertoire from Mozart, Debussy, Janáček, Verdi and Donizetti. Elvira in Don Giovanni, has become one of her ‘signature’ roles, performed in many guest appearances so in Prague, Bratislava, Stuttgart and Graz.

She also has been guest of the Teatro La Maestranza in Sevilla, the National Theatre in Tokyo, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, at the Klangfestival Dortmund, the Semperoper Dresden, the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, the Musikfest and most recently her debut at the Opera in Zurich.

Upcoming engagements are scheduled to take place at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Opéra Liège.
