Jennifer Tipton was born in Ohio and studied at Cornell University. She became an assistant to the dance lighting director Thomas Skelton and made her first Broadway lighting design in 1969 for Old Town. Jennifer became Professor of Design at the Yale School of Drama in 1981. She has won multiple Tony and Drama Desk Awards, the Jerome Robbins Prize and the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize. In 2008, she was awarded a USA Gracie Fellowship and a MacArthur Fellowship. Recently Jennifer created her own installation, Our Days and Night, at the Baryshnikov Art Center.
