Meet WNO

Joe Roche

Tenor

Having completed a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Trinity College, Dublin, Joe studied singing at the Royal College of Music in London.

Soon after finishing the RCM Opera Course, Joe moved to Cardiff and began working with WNO as a freelance singer. A full-time position in the Royal Opera House took him back to London for a year, but as soon as he could, he returned to his adopted home in Cardiff, WNO, and a permanent position in the men's chorus.

Joe has sung a number of principal roles with WNO including Abdallo in Nabucco, Blind in Die Fledermaus and Monsieur Triquet in Eugene Onegin. He is a big believer in the Chorus as an active, progressive entity within today's WNO, and as an advocate of the arts within Wales and the United Kingdom.

Joe surprised soprano Polly Greenwood onstage at Wales Millennium Centre by asking her to marry him, and on their days off they enjoy long walks with their Boston Terriers, Dexter and Basil.
