
Justina Gringytė
Overview
Award-winning Lithuanian mezzo-soprano Justina Gringytė studied at Lithuania’s Academy of Music and Theatre, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD), the National Opera Studio in London and Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania. She was awarded Young Singer of the Year at the International Opera Awards and is a graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House (ROH). There, she performed at the Olympic Committee's Opening Ceremony for the London 2012 Olympic Games alongside Renée Fleming, Bryn Terfel and Plácido Domingo.
Operatic highlights include: Title role Carmen (ENO, Scottish Opera, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Lithuanian National Opera, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre); Maddalena Rigoletto (Opéra National de Paris; ROH, Covent Garden; Teatro Real, Madrid; ENO and Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow); Amneris Aida (Israeli Opera, Lithuanian National Opera, Latvian National Opera); Preziosilla La forza del destino and Fenena Nabucco (WNO); Suzuki Madama Butterfly (Gran Teatre del Liceu); Hänsel Hänsel und Gretel (Korean National Opera, Vilnius City Opera); and Romeo I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Lithuanian National Opera).
Justina has performed across Europe’s major concert halls with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Simón Bolívar Orchestra, Basque National Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. She has also sung at the BBC Proms with City of Birmingham Symphony orchestra and at many song recitals at Wigmore Hall. Justina has collaborated with leading conductors including Antonio Pappano, Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Tugan Sokhiev, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Kazushi Ono, Robert Treviño, Carlo Rizzi, Xian Zhang and Edward Gardner.
Highlights of the 2023/2024 season included Aida (Lithuanian National Opera), the world premiere of Enheduana, Les Nuits d’ete (Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana) and Shéhérezade.
