Maia Broido

Tutti First Violin

Maia was born in St Petersburg. She completed her Bachelor Degree in Violin Performance at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Mayumi Seiler. Prior to this, she received guidance from the former concertmaster of the Leningrad Philharmonic and Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Yasha Milkis. Maia completed her Masters degree at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Royal College of Music in London, gaining a First. Supporting her studies, Maia participated in masterclasses with Rainer Schmidt, Menahem Pressler and Imre Rohmann. 

 Maia enjoys a busy career as chamber recitalist. Alongside pianist Robin Green, she has travelled extensively performing recitals across Europe and North America. She performs with the Salzburg Chamber Soloists in Austria and via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra in Toronto. Prior to WNO, Maia performed also performed with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, Simon Bolivar Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra.  

 Maia’s personal highlights at WNO so far have included productions of Lohengrin, Hansel & Gretel and Manon Lescaut, and also swimming in the lake in Finland, scuba diving in Dubai and paddle boarding in Hong Kong! Away from WNO, Maia regularly performs ‘Mariachi’ (Mexican folk music) with her Toronto based ensemble ‘Viva Mexico Mariachi’ and Tango.
