Mari Wyn Williams

Welsh soprano Mari Wyn Williams is recognised for her commanding stage presence and affinity with powerful repertoire. She studied with tenor Dennis O’Neill CBE and has achieved success in various competitions, including the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition in Zaragoza, in which she won third prize. She has also reached the finals of both the London Wagner Competition and the Elizabeth Connell Prize for Dramatic Sopranos in Sydney.

Mari’s wider repertoire includes Tosca for Opera Project at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes in concert with the Kensington Symphony Orchestra and the Epiphoni Consort, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, and Musetta in La Bohème. She has also sung Lady Macbeth in Macbeth for both Mid Wales Opera and West Green House Opera, a role to which she will return for Chelsea Opera Group’s 75th Anniversary concert.

Recent highlights include: Senta Der fliegende Holländer (Opera North debut and Saffron Opera Group), Woglinde Der Ring des Nibelungen (Longborough Festival Opera), Helmwige Die Walküre (Grange Park Opera), and Ortlinde The Valkyrie (ENO). Mari also performed as Helmwige at the Royal Albert Hall in a live recording for the podcast The Rest is History.
