Before joining WNO, Matteo served for several years as Principal Cello at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi (Teatro Verdi) in Trieste, Italy.
In Turin, Italy, he completed his studies under A. Mosca, graduating with a Distinction, before continuing his advanced training in Germany. He trained in Düsseldorf with J. Goritzki and later in Hamburg with W. Melhorn, where he achieved a Distinction in his Konzertexamen.
Matteo was awarded a scholarship from Villa Musica in Mainz, Germany, which allowed him to perform chamber music with esteemed musicians such as T. Brandis (Berliner Philharmoniker) and I. Bieler (Melos Quartet). In his chamber music work, he has collaborated with renowned artists including M. Brunello, G. Carmignola, A. Lucchesini, and with numerous colleagues from the Teatro Verdi. Early in his career, a masterclass with jazz cellist E. Reijseger inspired his passion for improvisation, jazz and composition.
As a freelance orchestral musician, Matteo has performed internationally in Austria, Korea, Oman, the USA, China, France, Germany and the United Arab Emirates. He has enjoyed long-standing collaborations with the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, the RAI Italian National Symphony Orchestra and the Filarmonica Toscanini.
