Meet WNO

Meriel Andrew

Soprano

Meriel is from Ciliau Aeron in West Wales. After completing her degree at Aberystwyth University, she taught English at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni. The Dame Eva Turner Award then enabled her to enter the Royal Northern College of Music. Further awards include the John Ireland Prize, the London Welsh Singer of the Year and the Manchester Welsh Prize.

Operatic roles include: Romilda Xerxes, Countess Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro, Pamina The Magic Flute and Governess The Turn of the Screw.

A personal WNO highlight for Meriel was sharing the stage with her 10-year-old daughter in The Cunning Little Vixen, in which they performed as Chief Hen and Foxcub. Outside of WNO, she enjoys cold sea dips, caravan trips and knitting.
