Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Olivera

Sub-Principal Viola

Miguel began playing the viola at the age of seven and completed his studies at Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Murcia, Higher School of Music of the Basque Country 'Musikene' and the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance. He obtained his Masters degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.

Prior to joining WNO, Miguel has worked with the Cadaqués Orchestra, Murcia Symphony, Castilla y León Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonia, Cammerata, Les Dissonances and bandArt. He has always been a keen chamber musician and has been a member of the Idomeneo Quartet since 2012.

Miguel’s highlights at WNO so far have been Der Rosenkavalier and Le Vin herbé: 'It does not happen very often that you get to have full interaction with the singers and every bit of the story performing on stage.'

Away from WNO, Miguel is passionate about jazz and improvised music. He also enjoys technology, cooking and sports.
