Raffaele Abete
Born in Naples, tenor Raffaele Abete studied at the Conservatorio di Musica Domenico Cimarosa in Avellino under the guidance of Maestro Pasquale Tizzani, specialising with Luciana Serra, Renato Bruson and Lella Cuberli. His first roles included Conte D'Almaviva, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Pescara and Tirana; Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni (Europa Musica); Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Marrucino in Chieti; Verdi's Requiem; Tosca; Beethoven's Symphony No 9 with I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan; Puccini's Messa di Gloria at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
Raffaele Abete has won numerous prizes including winner at the Atena Opera Festival and at the Etta e Paolo LimitiCompetition in Milan and at the Ottavio Ziino International Singing Contest (audience prize). In 2015, he also won the prize Una voce per l'Arena in Verona. He has since sung the role of Ismaele in Nabucco and the role of Rodolfo in La bohème in Verona and at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago. His American debut in 2016 was at the New York City Opera as Cavaradossi in Tosca, leading on to many performances as the Duke in Rigoletto.
Recent engagements include several productions of Madama Butterfly in the role of Pinkerton, in Verona, Bologna, Staatsoper Vienna and Copenhagen Opera House. In 2022, he worked on two productions with director Hugo de Ana: Cavaradossi in Tosca and Alfredo in a new production of La traviata. More recently he was engaged in Verdi’s Stiffelio in Dijon and Puccini’s Le Villi in Mainz.
