Florence Price Adoration
Hector Berlioz Les Nuits d'été (Summer Nights)
Anton Bruckner Symphony No 4, Romantic
Join conductor, Christopher Ward, the award-winning mezzo-soprano, Justina Gringytė (La forza del destino, Roberto Devereux) and WNO Orchestra for a concert that will win both hearts and minds.
The concert opens with Adoration by Florence Price. First composed in 1951 for the organ, this piece found a new life in a stirring arrangement for solo violin and string orchestra. Though it lasts just three minutes, its emotional weight is undeniable with a dignified melody and solemn harmonies.
Berlioz’s song cycle, Les Nuits d'été, based on six poems, explores the progression of love, blending vivid orchestral colours with Gringytė's ‘knockout technique’ (The Times) that will take you on a passionate journey of love and loss.
The concert concludes with Bruckner’s Symphony No 4. First written in 1874, it was subject to many revisions to bring it in line with the fashion of the time. Despite being over an hour-long, Romantic will leave you feeling energised.
