Panig! Attack!! The Seligman Youth Opera Performance
Overview
Celebrating 20 years of Welsh National Opera’s Youth Opera
This brand-new bilingual commission, composed by WNO Youth Opera Music Director Dan Perkin with a funny and quirky libretto by Bethan Marlow, sees us following the journey of two very different gangs, with some very eccentric ideas of the world.
Challenging each other to think differently and see the world anew, this is a story of survival in the face of global emergency. Accompanied by WNO Orchestra, this is a heart-warming story that not only showcases the exceptional talent of WNO Youth Opera participants past and present, and the commitment they have shown over the years, but the importance of finding connection, hope and above all friendship.
WNO grateful acknowledges the generous bequest of the late David Seligman and the Phillipa and David Seligman Gift towards WNO Youth Opera and The Seligman WNO Youth Opera Performance.
WNO Youth Opera and The Seligman WNO Youth Opera Performance is supported by , the Gibbs Trust, the Clive Richards Foundation, Andrew Fletcher and WNO Friends and Partners.

Synopsis
Synopsis
We’re in… well, somewhere. It’s some kind of no man’s land. A deserted, dilapidated world that feels empty and tired. Feels like there was once a lot of action here. It feels forgotten. The Panic Collective cautiously creep out of their hiding spots. They’re quirky and peculiar, intelligent and scared. The Attack Collective arrive. They are loud and chaotic, speaking and singing over each other as they insist on having their voices heard.
The two collectives skirt around each other, until they find common ground in the most unexpected place. Amongst the celebration, a group of friends that have been separated for years come face to face but now speak different languages. The leaders of both collectives gather to agree on how to move forward, no one can remember who used to own this land and they must therefore find a way to share it. But as they are about to shake on it, the friends return with something precious and both leaders want sole possession of it. The collectives separate, to prepare for battle. Even the friends part ways, although deep down they believe there is an alternative to this war. The battle is a fierce explosion of sound with brutal consequences – can the friends pool together amidst this fierce war? And will their voices be strong enough to be heard?
PANIG! ATTACK!! is an absurd story that’s out of this world and yet tackles the themes that feel very prevalent to our young people today.
