Follow the Fox with our new AR experience, A Vixen’s Tale

4 October 2019

Welsh National Opera’s latest Digital exhibition launches at Wales Millennium Centre tomorrow (Saturday 5 October), to co-incide with the opening performance ofThe Cunning Little Vixen. Entitled A Vixen’s Tale, the installation is themed around Janacek’s opera and designed to take you inside the forest where you can ‘follow the vixen’ through her natural environment.

Enter our human-scale tunnel, situated in the Glanfa Foyer, and augmented reality technology will immerse you in a pop-up-book world of flora and fauna, where you will meet all of the forest creatures featured in the opera. Fusing together music and theatre with innovative digital technology, this free, multi-sensory event will be accessible to all, and provide a delightful new perspective on this tale.

The experience will appeal to all ages and can be enjoyed simply by walking through the colourful, sensory arches, or by using mobile devices to further interact with the experience using AR technology which will unlock hidden narratives and allow for playful interactions with the characters and the environment.

Created in partnership with augmented reality specialists, Arcade, this is the latest in a series of digital experiences created by Welsh National Opera, to open up the world of opera to a different audience and to fuse classic work with new technology. This immersive project follows on from the success of WNO’s recent digital work which has included Freedom 360, Rhondda Rebel, Magic Butterfly and WNO Field, and cements WNO’s position as a pioneer of award-winning digital work in an arts setting.
