Giving Tuesday

3 December 2024
A group of ladies and gentlemen are having lunch together.

Welsh National Opera is proudly a Welsh dynamic arts organisation. We are also a charity who make an impact on people’s lives and in communities, and we are so proud of the work we do on and off stage.

In 2023/2024, we toured five main scale operas, including our critically acclaimed Death in Venice  and Rigoletto, and our audience numbers have continued to strengthen post pandemic attracting new audiences, as well as welcoming back loyal bookers.

We currently have three Associate Artists on a yearlong contract with the Company whose careers we are helping to launch, and our specialist technical staff are continuing to create world class sets and costumes in the heart of Cardiff for WNO and other companies.

Off stage, we continue to deliver our work in communities across a variety of projects. These have included WNO Teach, which introduces primary school children in South Wales to opera and singing, Wellness with WNO, our breathing and singing programme that is delivered in partnership with all seven Welsh health boards, and Opera Tutti, an immersive multi-sensory concert designed for children and young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

‘I’ve made new friends and have been given better opportunities than I would have been given without WNO.’

-Youth Opera 2023/24 Participant

During our 2023/24 Season, we have continued to bring opera and classical music to young people. We delivered WNO Teach in 14 schools, reaching a total of 585 pupils throughout the academic year, and in May 2024, Youth Opera performed The Very Last Green Thing | Solomon’s Ring at the Weston Studio in Wales Millennium Centre giving our young singers aged 10 -18 a chance to perform to an audience of 504.

Welsh National Opera brings people together from all walks of life to experience extraordinary opera, both on stage and in the community, and we rely on donations from a multitude of sources to help secure our future and continue to make this wonderful work.

Giving Tuesday is an international initiative in response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday that encourages people to give back as we enter the festive period, and this Giving Tuesday, you can donate to help support WNO’s future.

By donating as little as £1 on Tuesday 3 December, you will play a crucial role in ensuring we can deliver work in communities, on stage, in the workshop and in the concert hall.
