Regional Youth Opera

WNO Youth Opera is much more than just a singing group, as participants get the opportunity to develop not only their vocal ability but also their dramatic and movement performance skills through storytelling and character development.

We have WNO Youth Opera groups based in South Wales, North Wales and Birmingham with members aged from 8 – 18 years old. Groups meet weekly during term times and there are no auditions.

Each group works with WNO animateurs and repetiteurs on a variety of projects including classic and contemporary opera as well as specially commissioned work, which are performed in theatres and art centres. Previous experience is not necessary, just enthusiasm, commitment and energy.

Participants have the opportunity to audition for WNO main house productions with many Youth Opera members successfully performing with WNO in Cardiff and on tour across the UK and overseas.

Members are also invited to attend WNO dress rehearsals and productions.

Bursary support is available.

The performance, by WNO Youth Opera conducted with intense commitment by WNO’s music director Tomáš Hanus and wittily staged by David Pountney and designer Bethany Seddon, was beyond praise. Watching and hearing children sing and act in this way is one of life’s great pleasures
